// Oumou Sangaré
Born in 1968 in the Malian capital Bamako, Oumou Sangaré has become one of Africa’s most outstanding vocalists. With roots in Wassoulou, the southwest region of Mali, Sangaré has come to represent the local music traditions, characterised by pentatonic melodies with a strong Arabic tone. Her compositions focus on social commentary, women’s rights and the uneasy cohabitation between tradition and modernity in African society. Her releases, Moussoulou (1989), Ko Sira (1993), Worotan (1996), Laban (2001), the career retrospective Oumou (2003) and Seya (2009) have met with universal acclaim and success.

Je suis un grand admirateur de la musique de Mme Sangaré et c'est donc avec tristesse que j'ai appris qu'elle s'apprête à se produire en Israël, alors qu'elle est très engagée pour la défense des droits de Homme. De nombreux artistes (Lhasa, Elvis Costello, Gorillaz, les Pixies, Massive Attack, Vanessa Paradis, Natacha Atlas ... ) refusent de se produire en Israël -à l'image du boycott de l'Afrique du Sud de l'apartheid- tant que ce pays ne respectera pas le droit international et les droits de l'Homme. Soyons nombreux à inciter Mme Sangaré, à ne pas se produire dans un pays colonialiste qui pratique l'apartheid ...
