Hugh Masekela and The Mahotella Queens - UK tour November 2010

Hugh Masekela and The Mahotella Queens are part of a generation which forced the end of Apartheid and created a musical legacy as vibrant and relevant today as in their 1960s beginnings.

Trumpeter, singer, bandleader, jazzman, activist Hugh Masekela has been a pivotal figure in South Africa for over 50 years. Even in exile in New York he made his presence felt, becoming the first African artist to have a number one hit in the US with “Grazin’ In The Grass” in 1968. He composed key anti-apartheid anthems and took popular South African music to international prominence - Masekela’s voice remains a vital force.
