Brazilian Cinema Showcase arrives in London

31/08/2010

This major film festival opens on 1 September with the UK premiere of Lula, the Son of Brazil, the moving life-story of Brazil’s current president, and continues for an intense five days of screenings, meetings and discussions.

As well as a chance for film-goers to catch highlights of new Brazilian cinema, the festival aims to forge connections between the Brazilian and British film industries through the networking event on 3 September. Hosted by Bafta, this movie market initiative will be attended by key figures in Brazilian film, including Manoel Rangel - president of ANCINE the National Cinema Agency - and acclaimed director Fernando Meirelles.

The programme of films showing at the Apollo Piccadilly features 10 UK premieres of new Brazilian movies, from comedy to thrillers, with Q&A sessions with directors and/or actors after the screenings. This runs in parallel to Inffinito’s 2nd Brazilian Film Festival of London documentary season at the Southbank Centre.
