Didier Awadi completes his epic Présidents d'Afrique project

Five years in the making, Didier Awadi’s labour of love – the album Présidents d'Afrique – has been released in Senegal and his accompanying documentary of the same name is also finally complete.
In 2010 many African nations mark 50 years of independence. Through interviews and footage shot across Africa, the Caribbean, Europe and the US, Awadi’s project explores the true meaning, history and future of independence and freedom for the continent and the diaspora.
One of Africa’s most celebrated radical hip hop artists, Awadi (formerly of Dakar’s Positive Black Soul) invited guests from all over to contribute to the CD, including M-1 (Dead Prez), Mali’s Babani Koné and Skwatta Kamp from South Africa. Each track also samples speeches by political leaders of Africa and the talismanic figures of the black American civil rights movement, such as Martin Luther King, Aimé Césaire, Jomo Kenyatta, Nelson Mandela, Thomas Sankara and Gamal Abdel Nasser.
Awadi says it’s a message for the next generation, to learn about history, and to respond to the dreams of the political and cultural founding fathers of Africa, with knowledge and hope.
