World Circuit announces the October release of AfroCubism - their long awaited Mali-meets-Cuba project.

When World Circuit label boss and producer Nick Gold headed to Cuba in 1996 his idea to record Havana’s finest jamming with Bamako’s best didn’t turn out quite as planned. For reasons which still remain a mystery, the Malian musicians never arrived. Instead he put together a line-up of some of Cuba’s forgotten greats, and the result was a global sensation - Buena Vista Social Club.

Fourteen years later it was high time to try the again: the session has finally happened and AfroCubism is due out in October. The line-up features Cuba’s Eliades Ochoa (the singer/guitarist who wrote ‘Chan-Chan’) and his Grupo Patria with a killer line-up of Malian masters including Bassekou Kouyate (ngoni), Djelimady Tounkara (guitar), Toumani Diabaté (kora), Kasse Mady Diabaté (vocals) and Lassana Diabaté (balafon).

AfroCubism play live at La Mar de Musicas festival in Cartagena, Spain (9 July) and at North Sea Jazz Festival in Rotterdam, Holland (11 July). More dates to follow in autumn 2010.
