Free Afro Cup Festival at Rich Mix 11 June - 11 July

09/06/2010

25 days & nights of live music, DJs, art, films, food and…World Cup football!

All games shown on a giant 15 x 12ft screen. All events FREE

Russ Jones aka the Hackney Globe Trotter and Rich Mix are teaming up to present the Afro Cup Festival, a month long festival at Rich Mix in London's East End to tie in with the football World Cup in South Africa.

The Afro Cup festival - part of Rich Mix Free 2010 - coincides with the first ever major international sporting event in Africa and also the 50th year of independence for 17 African nations. To celebrate, this Afro Cup Festival will be hosting over 25 days and nights of entertainment with an African theme and all games will be screened live on a massive 15 x 10ft screen. The Afro Cup Festival features 18 nights of live African music from the best of London's Afrocentric bands and each night will be co-hosted by the cream of the crop of African promoters and DJs. On top of this there will be films, an art exhibition, DJ nights, album launches, African food and a street art exhibition profiling the work of emerging artists. As soon as the final match finishes each day, the party will start. Rich Mix will be transformed from the inside out into an African football bar-cum-shack, with a capacity of 500 per night. From the first kick on Fri 11 June until the final whistle on Sun 11 July, Rich Mix will screen all the big matches.
