Gil Scott-Heron to play Womad on Sunday 25 July 2010

13/04/2010

Legendary US political poet Gil Scott-Heron is confirmed to perform at this summer’s WOMAD festival. Without a doubt one of the most important voices in 20th century music, he will close the festival on Sunday 25 July. The weekend’s programme is packed with more great artists, including Malian star Salif Keita, the extraordinary Congolese street musicians Staff Benda Bilili, Jamaican legend Horace Andy, Calypso Rose (Tobago), LA-33 (Colombia), Orchestra Poly-Rythmo de Cotonou (Benin), Poirier feat. Face T (Canada/Jamaica) and Rango (Egypt). As usual WOMAD offers a worldwide experience beyond music, with amazing global food, dance workshops, holistic treatments and loads more to discover.
