![]() NEWSFestival Brazil at the Southbank Centre 19 June-5 Sept 201017/02/2010
A major festival at the Southbank Centre throughout the summer will bring Brazilian culture to the heart of London. With music, visual arts, dance, literature, design and food the festival aims for an immersion in the dynamic cultural life of contemporary Brazil.
Major artists confirmed include Maria Bethânia (17 July) and Gilberto Gil (21 July) plus psych rock legends Os Mutantes and a rare appearance by tropicália genius Tom Zé (18 July). Rio’s pioneering cultural warriors AfroReggae will also be performing and Salvador’s capoeira masters star in Brazil! Brazil!
On the art and design tip, there will be a major show by Ernesto Neto at the Hayward Gallery, installations by acclaimed designers The Campana Brothers and street art projects headed up by Gringo Cardia. Brazilian writers and poets will also be highlighted within 2010's London Literature Festival. With more acts to be announced including an extensive programme of free events, Festival Brazil looks set to be a superb platform for Brazil’s incredible creative diversity.
