Viva La Colifata! Manu Chao, music and mental health

Manu Chao’s favourite radio station La Colifata broadcasts from a psychiatric hospital in Buenos Aires. Launched over 15 years ago, the radio project serves as a therapeutic treatment for patients at Tiburcio Borda Hospital, helping them rebuild social links to the outside world. As an active supporter, Manu Chao helped record an album, Viva La Colifata, with the patients. The album is available for free download through VivaLaColifata.org where you can also make a donation to help keep the radio station going.  Alfredo Olivera, the station's director and founder, describes the collaboration as “very positive, not only because it tackled the social stigma of mental illness, but because it helped people leave the hospital and develop their own autonomy."
