The Edinburgh Mela Festival 2009 kicks off 7-9 August at Pilrig Park

04/08/2009

Celebrating Scotland’s cultural diversity through the arts, the Edinburgh Mela offers performances by local and international acts, and this year’s edition sees a special focus on artists who make connections between different cultural heritages in their work. The music line-up includes Scots-Indian folksters India Alba, electro-Ghanaian band Kakatsitsi, ‘Princess of Bhangra’ Mona Singh, Desi beats masters Panjabi Hit Squad and rising turntablist stars Tigerstyle. The weekend also offers classical Indian, samba and Bollywood dance workshops, theatre, the Mela Cricket Cup and a Bollywood film season. A £2 day pass gives access to all festival events.

Tigerstyle will also be performing a live film soundtrack to a specially created re-edit of the 1957 Bollywood classic Mother India
