Blaze - The Barbican’s summer season

The Barbican’s summer season sees the start of a new series of events programmed at various venues across East London as well as at the Barbican itself. The Blaze events are part of CREATE09, a cross-arts festival in the five Olympic host boroughs (Greenwich, Hackney, Newham, Tower Hamlets & Waltham Forest) between June and August.

Celebrating 50 years of the revolution with Havana Cultura, the Barbican presents Orquestra Aragon and Yoruba Andabo for a deep dance session at Hackney Empire (25 June) Yoruba Andabo + Changui de Guantanamo in Gillett Square (27 June) and Pablo Milanes at the Barbican (27 June). The Cuba50 series finishes up with Los Van Van and Yoruba Andabo at the Barbican (28 June).

A UK Jazz Dance special - Beyond The Ballroom - is at Cargo (19 July) and July highlights at the Barbican Hall include flamenco singer Estrella Morente (4 July) Rome’s global innovators Orchestra di Piazza Vittorio (17 July) the Witchseason Weekender featuring Fairport Convention all-star reunion (18 July) and the Incredible String Band tribute (19 July) Wynton Marsalis (24 July) Antibalas (25 July) Spok Frevo and Kasaï Allstars (26 July) and Goran Bregovic (30 July).
