Joe Bataan & James Pants live at Cargo 11 June plus dates in Leeds and Birmingham

Joe ‘Mr Latin Soul’ Bataan meets James ‘fresh beats’ Pants this week as part of a series of inspired collaborative concerts at Cargo which previously gave us the original pairing of Heliocentrics with Mulatu Astatke. The artists meeting tonight have both been hailed as visionaries in their zones, Bataan, as an early fore-runner on the Latin Soul tip, brought disco, funk and soul to party with salsa in 1960s Spanish Harlem. His huge hits like Gypsy Woman and Subway Joe proved he has a serious gift for smash cross-overs. Multi-instrumentalist and all-round beats fiend James Pants brings his electro boogie and post-punk disco to plug in what promises to be a big big night of surprises and totally new dancefloor grooves. Also featuring Alice Russell, Goldilocks, Willie Isz plus DJ Karen P.
