Refugee Week 20-26 June 2011

Refugee Week (20-26 June 2011) celebrates the arts, culture and voices of refugees in the UK and this year also marks the 60th anniversary of the United Nations Refugee Convention. That cardinal piece of legislation defined refugee status and the right to sanctuary for the first time. Today close to 16 million people around the world are living as refugees and asylum seekers. Refugee Week aims to connect communities through a programme of locally organised events open to all, ranging from live music and oral history to cricket matches and sky writing.

Celebrating Sanctuary festival on 19 June in London launches the week.
