VSO Stars Of Africa concert raises £450,000

Hosted by actor and playwright Kwame Kwei-Armah and DJ Rita Ray, Stars Of Africa on 26 November 2008 will be headlined by legendary South African trumpeter Hugh Masekela plus performances by charismatic Beninese singer Angelique Kidjo and Malian ngoni virtuoso Bassekou Kouyate. The evening celebrates both the 50th anniversary of VSO and the rich and vibrant musical traditions of the continent where VSO has worked for 50 years. Remarkably the Royal Albert Hall, which holds over 5000 people, has already sold out a full three weeks before the concert, raising £450,000 for VSO’s education work in Africa. Since 1958 VSO has sent over 32,000 volunteers to work alongside its partners overseas and remains a strong and important presence in Africa today.
