Hey, we love digital music, we even sell the stuff (mp3.mondomix.com). But independent music has long relied on the independent record store to supply, educate and connect music lovers. These little meccas are vital sources of indepth knowledge, CDs, vinyl and the odd dodgy Tshirt.
Thousands of stores have shut down over the last few years, and as sales take a tumble and outlets disappear, artists, labels and fans have recognised the need to get together and support their local shops.
Saturday 16 April is Record Store Day, the annual international celebration of independent record shops. With special exclusive releases, instore performances and general shindiggery, this is the day to get your physical self into a physical store and buy some music!
Limited edition RSD exclusives we will race you to the store for:
Owiny Sigoma Band – Wires (12”) single from the very lovely Kenya/UK collaboration due out in May.
Ali Farka Touré – Manakoidé (10”) super rare 1975 recording by the Malian guitar great.
Far Out Psych Sevens (5 x 7” set) Far Out Recordings fave 45s – Brazilian acid-folk, space rock and tropicalia.
Gil Scott-Heron and Jamie xx - We're New Here (LP box set) dubstep and that voice collide to crack your soul
