Fair Play Campaign - Call For Video Entries

A global anti-corruption campaign called Fair Play has been launched.
The concept is for young bands (18-35 years) to play their part in the movement by producing music on the theme of anti-corruption. Bands are invited to submit their music videos online before the March 2011 deadline. The three winning bands, chosen by a Fair Play committee, will win a trip to Kenya to participate in the 2nd Anti-Corruption forum on 27th April 2011. They will also have the chance to perform live in Nairobi. The band that receives the most online votes for the video will receive a studio session worth US$2000 and significant publicity.
The initiative is being managed by a consortium of partners; the Jeunesses Musicales International Foundation, the World Bank Institute and the Global Youth Anti-Corruption Network. The competition has started a groundswell of interest. A campaign track has been released; a collaboration between Mafilika (Malawi), I Voice (Lebanon) and Katya Emmanuel (DRC) called ‘Together Against Corruption’.
So far bands from Colombia (many!), the UK, France, Italy, Canada, Croatia, Argentina, Cameroon and Finland have submitted videos. It’s truly a global campaign. The genres are varied but look likely to be dominated by urban music. While probably not by design, the project couldn’t come at a more prescient moment, when governments in many parts of the world, most notably North Africa, have been under increasing pressure from mobilised populations to bring about reforms.
