Since Goran Bregovic ended his collaboration with his fellow-countryman, the controversial director Emir Kusturica, he has explored more traditional musical horizons and returned to the stage with his Orchestra for Weddings and Funerals. Despite the commercial success and enthusiasm of his global tours, the composer continues to experiment with his region’s gypsy traditions and to explore the music of the world’s three major monotheistic religions. At the ninth edition of the World Sacred Music festival in Fez, Morocco, the Bosnian was invited to present his creation And my heart will be tolerant. In the composition, Jewish, Christian and Muslim faiths come together in a hymn of reconciliaton and openness. Yet Bregovic’s dexterity continues to surprise: in 2004 he combined his vision of Bizet’s Carmen, (which he called Bregovic’s Carmen with a happy end) with a documentary film by Italian director Milos Radovic. Nevertheless, Bregovic’s music continues to resonate with the diverse cultures of the Balkans.

Fan des musiques de Goran, je ne rate pas un de ces concerts dans ma région, et je trouve que le rendu musical de ses prestations sur scène est exceptionnel et donne toute sa dimension à sa musique. Mais le dernier concert auquel j'ai assisté à Mèze a été une déception immense et je suis reparti avant la fin avec un sentiment de trahison auquel je ne m'attendais vraiment pas de sa part. Je me serais plus régalée d'écouter un cd chez moi et j'aurais économisé pas mal d'argent.C'était un concert au rabais pour la musique mais pas pour le portefeuille. Merci de le lui faire savoir.
