Little Axe is the blues band of Ohio-based Skip McDonald. Born in 1949, McDonald learnt how to play the blues with his dad at the age of 8 years old, turning to doo-wop at the age of 12. Yet it is the fiery blues of the Deep South that Little Axe have adopted. The group, comprising of Doug Wimbish (bass) and Keith LeBlanc (drums), were the house band for the infamous rap label, Sugar Hill. They have therefore provided the music for artists such as Grandmaster Flash, Afrika Bambaata and Force M.D.'s. Little Axe have also worked with Adrian Sherwood's On-U Sound label, playing a significant role in projects including Tackhead and Living Colour.
