Paris - October 2004

Paris - October 2004 As part of his autumn tour of Europe to promote his sixth album “Africa Shrine”, Femi came to Paris’s Elysée Montmartre concert hall. There I persuaded a tired and jaded musician to consent to yet another interview. It was October 19th, 2004.

November 2004

The New African Shrine club opened in late 2000. Femi feels highly satisfied with the expansion of his live work. Does he feel he is finally stepping out of his father’s shadow?

As a musician Femi feels under threat, and through his music lashes out at his enemies. All the songs on his live album are his own compositions except for the classic “Water no get enemy”

The live CD comes out with a DVD by Raphaël Frydman which follows Femi’s every step in the Shrine. This compound which has become his stage, studio, business centre and home

The heavy price Femi pays to be an artist in the limelight. His frustrations at being far from his son and home, “depressed on tour”. “I’m trying to run away from it…and find some peace because you don’t really have your time.”
