Reclaiming the raw power of acoustic tango this 12 piece orchestra of young virtuoso players from Buenos Aires channel subversive folklore into 21st century counterculture.

Simon Bolivar Youth Orchestra with Omar Puente Group
9.30pm Southbank Centre

Members of Venezuela’s acclaimed classical youth orchestra go head to head in a one-off collaboration with Cuban violinist Omar Puente and his group.

As the king of Rumba Catalana, Peret mixes flamenco, mambo, rock n roll and Cuban son and delivers big, big technicolour tunes!

The night also features cumbia rumberos La Troba Kung-Fú from Barcelona and London’s own psych surf outfit Los Chinches, playing Peruvian chicha.

Latin Grammy winner Vanessa da Mata is a welcome new Brazilian voice with a fresh funky bossa sound and a new album Sim.

 

27 April

Ojos De Brujo
+ Kumar

7pm Roundhouse

Barcelona’s killer collective return with their super-charged urban flamenco and a new album Aocaná. Support comes from Cuban hip hop artist Kumar – a Gilles Peterson favourite.

 

28 April

Spanish Bombs: Tropical Tribute to the Clash Featuring members of Ozomatli, Plastilina Mosh, King Chango, Sergent Garcia, Amparanoia, Alejandro Escovedo and more tba.

Countless bands across Latin America felt the inspirational force of The Clash. In this collaborative tribute we’ll find out what happens when key artists of the alternative Latin scene come together and take a punk attitude to party with cumbia, rock en español, hip hop, Latin ska and more.

Alejandro Escovedo

A celebrated son of Austin Texas, Mexican-American Alejandro Escovedo rocks out on the borders of alt-country, punk and blues.
