K’Naan in Kibera

Somalian hip hop artist K’Naan went to Kibera in Nairobi, Kenya to make the video for his protest song Soobax. Kibera is one of the biggest slums in Africa, and where many Somalians live as refugees from war-torn Mogadishu. As part of the 4 Real film series, presented and produced by Sol Guy, K’Naan explores the city, the local hip hop scene and meets Kibera community leader Salim Mohammed, visiting his health and children’s projects, including the football programme which helps 16,000 children.

The 4Real film series was created by Sol Guy and Josh Thome. Each of the eight films features a musician or film actor who visits a particular country with 4Real to connect with community leaders who are affecting real social change through various local projects. Like when Mos Def travels to City of God in Rio de Janeiro to meet MV Bill, a Brazilian hip hop superstar who has built cultural centres for children in the favelas. Other episodes include M.I.A. in Liberia and Flea with Camseuze Moise in Haiti. The films seek to mobilize support and action for the communities.
