This Colombian seven-piece wowed audiences at WOMEX in Seville last year, with a spectacular, super-tight performance of joropo music and dance. Hailing from the vast Orinoco plains which stretch from Colombia into Venezuela, joropo is a fast traditional rhythm played on harp, bandola and cuatro accompanied by bass, cajon and maracas. Cimarrón fire up flawless virtuosity with a heart-stopping sense of drama, incredible! Cimarrón performs at WOMAD Charlton Park 2009: 24 July: Siam Tent 13:45 / World Rhythms (workshop) 17:00 / BBC Radio 3 Stage 20:00 www.womad.org
