Live Wire

Live Wire presents the most influential American folk singer in concert. Recorded by a fan at a 1949 show one winter’s night in New Jersey, this release is a historic event. It delivers the full intensity, and humour, of Woody Guthrie’s chronicles of American social history. This exceptional story-teller, accompanied here by simple guitar chords, sings his songs of truculence and tragedy, and tells his tales - funny episodes recounted with irresistible wit. In between we hear introductions by Guthrie’s second wife, Marjorie Mazia. Most of the tracks, such as ‘Talking Dust Bowl Blues’, ‘Pastures Of Plenty’ and ‘Tom Joad’, are landmarks in the history of American popular music. Rare and precious.

Woody Guthrie – Live Wire is out now on Rounder/Universal.
