Orchestra di Piazza Vittorio
The Orchestra di Piazza Vittorio was founded in 2002 in Rome by the Italian classically-trained composer Mario Tronco in association with the Apollo 11 cultural campaign group headed up by film-maker Agostino Ferrente. Rooted in the Piazza Vittorio area of Rome, the multicultural hub of the city, the orchestra is made up of a core group of 15 musicians from many different countries who represent the cultural diversity of Italy’s capital. Their eclectic sound reflects the pluralistic nature of the band-members’ heritages, including the manifold traditions of Tunisia, Cuba, Senegal, Brazil, Argentina, US, Hungary, Ecuador and Italy. Touring internationally, and self-releasing several albums, the OPV celebrates the benefits of a diverse society while providing an experimental artistic laboratory and, not least, a living, for its creative and ever expanding line-up.
